If you wanted to suggest this story to a friend, what would you say it is mostly about?

The book Dewey is a nonfiction story about a cat who was abandoned at a library, and was found in the morning by the author, Vicki Myron, who is the librarian at this time. Vicki, then asked the person who was in charge of this library if they could allow Dewey, the cat Vicki found, stay in the library. Dewey then got popular, and people around the Spencer, Iowa would make a special trip to see Dewey. If you like books about cats, then this one might be your style.

Would you choose the main character of the story to be your friend? Why or why not?

No, I wouldn't choose any characters to be my friends in the Hunger Games series because it would require me to be in the novel, and I don't think I would want to live through what happens in these novels. In Mockingjay, it would be though to deal with Katniss because she would probably kill me like how she wanted to kill Peeta to save him at the beginning of this novel. Although, I do know she can be caring, like when she helped Johanna when she wanted to leave the hospital, Katniss said that she would room with her so she could be able to leave.

Create a playlist of 10 songs for this book and explain how each relates.

I actually only know one song that I know that matches the Hunger Games series perfectly. The song is by Rise Against with the title of Re-Education. This song matches the novels well because in the song, the singer says, "We crawl on our kneels for you, under a sky no longer blue. We sweat, all day long for you." This phrase connects because Katniss was raised in District 12, the poorest out of all 12 Districts. They are practically making the lives in the capitol more luxurious while District 12 has cobblestone roads.

What would be one small detail that, if changed, might change the outcome of the story.

In the beginning of Catching Fire Katniss said that when her father passed away she would have sold her body to Cray, a peace keeper in District 12, if she was a little older as a source of money towards Prim and her mother. Instead, she hunted for food. Also, if she was a little older, she might not have been able to take her sisters place in the reaping, so the book would have either focused on Prim in the Hunger Games, or Katniss watching her sister throughout the Hunger Games.

Do you want to read something else by this author? Why or why not?

I do not want to read anything else by this Suzanne Collins because I already read the first 3, and I am bored of the story line between Katniss and the Hunger Games. Another reason I don't want to read another novel by Suzanne Collins for this class is because I still have to read a nonfiction novel by the end of the semester.

Create an alternative setting for the book. How would things be different and how would they be the same?

If I were to put in a different setting, I would put it so Districts 1-12 would all be the same amount of wealth, and  the Capitol would only slightly be wealthier because of the amount of  population there. District 1-12 would also keep the product of production (Examples: 12 is Coal, 4 is Fish or aquatic life) If this was the true setting, I doubt there would be any hunger games. If each District had the same wealth, Katniss wouldn't have had to hunt after her father had passed away. Her mother and Prim could have opened a clinic.

Explain what the main character’s most pressing problem is at this time.

Currently, in Mockingjay, Katniss' toughest issue is that she needs to train for the battle in the Capitol. She and Johanna had been put into training with 14 and 15 year-olds because she isn't strong enough to enter battle, and claim vengence on president Snow. Another issue Katniss has is that Peeta hates her, and she feels a little sad and guilty. She feels sad because, in her eyes, Peeta was very kind to her, and she also feels guilty because she was leading an empty romance with him because she didn't like him in the same way.

What was the most interesting quote from today’s reading? Why?

"You missed the best part. Delly lost her temper at Peeta over how he treated you. She got very squeaky. It was like someone stabbing a mouse with a fork repeatedly. The whole dining hall was riveted." Johanna said. This part sticked out to me because currently, I am also reading Of Mice and Men, and it was like deja vu. It also stuck out to me because the way Johanna phrased it was humorous.

What are the three big questions you have at this time?

Currently in Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins, I have a question on 'Is Katniss really on the right side?' I wonder this because in the novel, when Peeta was speaking threw the television to Katniss, he told her that they should call a hold on fire. Also, Katniss was kind of forced to take the rebels side, because Pultarch and Haymitch took her to District 13. The second question I have is 'Will Peeta ever recover, or will he forever hate Katniss?' My prediction is that miraculously, Peeta will somehow return to how he was. Personally, I think it would be interesting if he didn't return to how he was. Finally, the third question I have is 'Will the rebels win, or will the Capitol win?' My prediction is that the rebels will win because Katniss is the protagonist, and the protagonist always wins.

Find one object that symbolizes the main theme of the novel. Explain how it accomplishes this.

In Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins, The one object that symbolizes the series is the pin Katniss received by her friend Madge during the reaping. When Katniss was in the Hunger Games for awhile and while Rue was dying, Rue told Katniss that she liked the symbol of the pin because it reminded her of District 11. In Catching Fire, the pin represented the fashion in the capitol before the Quarter Quell. Lastly, In Mockingjay, the pin represented rebellion and it represented who Katniss was.

Create a news article that would relate to the main conflict in the story and its resolution.

The Mockingjay begins her strike on the Capitol
After knowing Gale would go to fight in the capitol, Katniss, leader of the rebels, has undergone much training to fight in the capitol. She has a full month to train with Johanna to become fit enough to fight in the capitol after she blew up a tunnel in District 2. Will her training be all for naught, or will her strength prove useful enough for the final boss, the capitol? Find out more when the next issue of the Monthly Newspapers 13.

Describe the main character in great detail.

The main character from The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mocking Jay is Katniss Everdeen. She prefers not to wear pretty clothes, and she is more of the tomboy type. In the books, she was described with brown hair and gray eyes with pale skin. In the first book, The Hunger Games, before the games, she travel to the capitol, and to please the people in the capitol she had to dress in makeup and fancy clothes so they would favor her in the games. Katniss could also be described as pure because in the first book she had to change Peeta's clothes and she felt awkward by it; this was also mentioned in the second book, Catching Fire, when she was meeting the other victors, Johanna stripped in the elevator, and Katniss felt embarrassed about it, and Peeta had to tell her that they were not making fun of her, they just thought she was pure.

How do you feel at the end of the reading today?

At the end of reading today, I feel relaxed. I feel relaxed after reading because in the Hunger Games, they were entering the city in their costumes. After they were done in the city, they headed back to their quarters so that they could eat and be ready for the competition.

What I like and dislike so far in The Hunger Games. So far I am to the point where Katniss and Cina (the stylist for the Hunger Games competition) are discussing the costume for what Katniss will wear for the competition. What I like so far in this story is the fact Katniss would go so far as to take her sisters place in the competition. Another thing I like about the Hunger Games so far is that they introduce the characters before actually throwing them into the competition. One thing I dislike about The Hunger Games is that the dad died and the mother just about abandoned Katniss and her sister.
